There’s a reason why a common term for microwaving foods is ‘nuking’ your food. Because that’s exactly what it does.
Microwaves a destructive to foods at a cellular level and they turn your nutrition rich yummy foods into non-nutritional waste.
Natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, pulses, nuts and the like are packed full to the brim with nutrients, including vitamins, minerals a phytonutrients that give your body the right fuel to fight off diseases such as diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s and more, you name it, healthy nutritional food helps your body to fight it.
But scarily, there have been many studies conducted that have proven that nearly all of the nutritional value of food is destroyed.
One example is broccoli, which has cancer fighting nutrients, of which 98% are destroyed when you microwave it. We say scarily, because so many people today use microwaves for a quick way to cook their food after a hard day at work, so it means that much of what we in the West are consuming could be nutrition-less.
Even School Experiments Show Amazing Results
One very sweet little story that demonstrates the fact that microwaves are bad for our food is one from a young girl who did an experiment for a science project in secondary school in Sussex.
The girl divided normal filtered water into two parts, with the first being heated up to boiling point in a saucepan on the hob and the other being boiled in the microwave. She then cooled the water and used it to water two identical plants and recorded the growth to see if there was any difference between the two water supplies.
The girl believed that the water’s energy or structure might be changed when it is boiled in the microwave and the results were astounding. The plant that was being fed with microwave water did not grow anywhere near as well as the purified water, and eventually the plant died, you can see the photos of the experiment here.
Why And How Microwaves Spoil Food
To understand why microwaves spoil the food that you eat, you must first understand phytonutrients and vitamins.
Vitamins and phytonutrients are made up of delicate and fragile molecules, which can easily be obliterated by heat. This is the reason that raw plant food is far more nutritious than cooked, and why we use and promote raw foods here at Amchara.
Using a microwave is definitely the absolute worst way of preparing your food because they work by stimulating the water molecules in food, which leads to the decomposition at the cellular level of most vitamins and phytonutrients.
Therefore, the foods that you eat is no longer doing the job of helping to fight against disease and is practically useless. It changes your food from lovely, nutritious, tasty, beautiful food to dead food full of empty calories.
The problem for many people is that food cooked in the microwave doesn’t look any different. But don’t let looks deceive you, the food is nowhere near the same and has been stripped of all its goodness.
How Do I Keep The Nutrients In My Food?
The best way to get the most nutrients from your food is to eat raw foods, meaning uncooked fruits, vegetables and so on.
If you must cook your vegetables, the best way is to gently steam them, which helps with the bioavailability of the nutrients in your food. You can of course also grill or stir-fry your vegetables a little from time to time too for a healthy diet, but do ensure that you never burn anything as burned foods contain toxic chemicals that can cause various types of cancer.
It is pretty simple to live without a microwave. Remember, raw fruit and veg is fast food!
