What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease whereby the pancreas does not generate enough insulin to keep blood sugar levels at a safe level.


Causes of type 2 diabetes

It is believed that type 2 diabetes is generally brought on by a poor diet consisting of processed foods, high sugar levels and not enough exercise.




Recommended foods for type 2 diabetics (and type 1)

The best raw foods for diabetics are cabbage, avocado and spinach and it is important to eat a diet mainly consisting of vegetables with minimal fruit due to the high levels of natural sugars. Pears contain levulose rather than fructose, and levulose is a safer fruit sugar for diabetics so you can eat a few of these each week. Remember to also get at least 30 minutes exercise each day.

Cut out all processed foods and refined sugars.

Green Machine
Handful spinach, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 small cabbage, 2 florets of broccoli, 1 celery stalk, 1 pear

4 broccoli florets, 1 radish peeled and chopped, 1 yellow pepper, 1 stalk rhubarb

Tropical Delight
100ml coconut milk, 1 banana, 1/2 lime, squeeze lemon, 1 stalk celery

Nutty Professor
50ml almond milk, 50ml water, 1 stick cinnamon
