What is a Parasite?
A parasite is a simple organism that lives on another animal or person (the host).
It feeds off the host, often causing illness and damaging effects to the host.
It is estimated that millions of people in the UK are infected with parasites which fall into two categories - worms and protozoans.
It is also estimated that a very large percentage of both UK and US water supplies are contaminated with protozoans that can cause infections in humans leading to diarrhoea and vomiting.
Parasites can deplete the body of essential nutrients.
This can lead to organ problems and in very severe and extreme cases, organ failure.
More typically, less severe symptoms may be experienced as a result of parasite infection, such as headaches, flatulence, constipation or diarrhoea, anaemia and fatigue.
Parasites can come from a wide number of sources - one of the most common is picking up parasites from pets.
Other sources include eating smoked or raw salmon and other fish, drinking water, contaminated food products in restaurants and shops, or even from simply going for a walk.

If you have pets, it’s important to take them for regular veterinary checks and to give them regular worming medications.
In some parts of the world, it is standard practice for children to be regularly checked for parasites but in the UK and US parasite checks don’t take place unless you fall ill.
There are a number of herbs that are a parasite's worst enemy but are safe for human consumption and colon cleansing can kill and flush out parasites.
Herbs and natural ingredients that can be used to rid the body of parasitic infection and toxins left by parasites include garlic, honey, papaya, apples, pumpkin seeds, fresh basil or fennel tea, oregano oil extract capsules, cayenne capsules, milk thistle extract and olive leaf capsules.
Aloe leaf is another popular parasite detoxifying remedy, and drinking slippery elm tea can help to improve bowel function and help flush toxins out.
Eliminating sugar and grain can kill off the bad bacteria that parasites thrive on.
However it is important to remember that there is only limited research into how effective these parasite cleanse remedies are.
Flushing toxins out of the body also helps to improve the body’s immune function, which in turn increases the body’s ability to rid itself of toxins.
Remember that drinking plenty of water is vital to help flush toxins out.
The Apple Diet is one form of natural parasite cure that is popular.
It’s a simple 7 day diet plan that helps to get started with parasite detox and is a good general detox.
Diabetics should take care however as apples contain high sugar levels in large quantities - always check with your doctor before trying any new diets.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also not carry out this diet and should consult a doctor for advice on parasites and detoxing while pregnant.
The first few days of this diet are spent by cleansing the body, meaning you will be cutting out meat and dairy and unhealthy foods.
You will be able to eat as many organic apples and drink as much pure organic apple juice as you can take.
Drink plenty of water.
On day four you should start taking garlic capsules, which is something that most parasites do not agree with.
At the same time you should also start eating papaya fruit or drinking the juice, organic if possible.
Also incorporate 2-3 cups of Senna or peppermint herbal tea each day.
Something else that helps is to eat pumpkins seeds with a tablespoon of castor oil or olive oil.
Continue taking all of these herbal remedies for the last 3 days of the 7 but also for the final 3 days eat plenty of garlic and onions, quinoa and 1-2 green salads each day.
It is very important that you drink sufficient water as this helps to flush parasites and toxins from the body.
Flushing toxins out of the body also helps to improve the body’s immune function, which increase the body’s ability to rid itself of toxins.
