Amchara's Personalised Health

Your body and mind has an extraordinary capacity to improve and stay healthy if given the right environment and lifestyle. At Amchara we have an approach to health that balances 3 strategies of elimination, replenishment and education. With the foundation of the functional medicine model, combined with careful monitoring, we aim to optimise the opportunity for positive changes in your health and lifestyle. This combination is Personalised Health.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine tackles the underlying causes of disease and poor health. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. Conventional medicine tends to have a disease-centred focus. However functional medicine, the medical basis for Personalised Health, addresses not just a set of symptoms seen in isolation but the whole, unique person offering a more patient-centred approach.
In the 21st century there are many factors that influence our health & wellbeing
Functional practitioners review your relationship with nutrition together with the interactions between genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. These are understood to influence both long-term health and the development of complex, chronic disease.Often lab tests are used to measure key markers in the body that are not routinely examined by orthodox medicine. Tests that examine vitamins, minerals, hormones and gut health markers in a different way, are understood to give a clearer picture of the function of body systems and their impact on health.
Why is functional medicine growing so rapidly?
Our society is experiencing a sharp rise in the number of people who suffer from complex, chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, arthritis, high blood pressure and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis. This increase has raised questions around whether the traditional approach of appearing to wait until a problem becomes chronic, best serves our health outcomes. The over-burdened public health systems whilst undeniably highly effective for emergencies and critical situations are not geared up for ‘preventative medicine’. As a result, more people are turning to naturopaths, nutritionists and other functional medicine practitioners to understand what they need to do to attain longevity and reduce the likelihood of acute health problems before they occur.
MONITORING CHANGE
Personalised Health Tests
The variety of tests recommended by Amchara measure how well your body is working on a functional level. Shown below are two examples of what information these provide and why they are an important part of your health strategy. These functional tests require health consultations. Consultations and tests are optional extras and are normally best recommended after your health stay as your body markers may change during your detox.
Example tests include:
Adrenal Stress Profile
Adrenal Stress Profile is a saliva hormone test that gives accurate indications to our bio-chemical stress function This test works by measuring our vital stress hormones, cortisol and DHEA. The adrenal hormones cortisol and DHEA function influence, metabolism, anti-inflammatory response, our thyroid function and our resilience or resistance to stress Diseases and conditions associated with “adrenocortex stress” include:
Anxiety • Cardiovascular disease • Celiac disease • Chronic fatigue syndrome • Depression • Hypoglycaemia • High blood pressure • Insomnia • Migraine headaches • Obesity • Thyroid dysfunction • Ulcers • Weak immune system
Once measurement of your hormone levels is made, and working with one of our personalised health practitioners, changes in lifestyle and nutrition can be made to positively impact your cortisol and DHEA levels to improve your energy and emotional state, your resistance to disease and general sense of well-being.
Essential Fatty Acids Test
Essential fatty acids are crucial to every cell in your body and balance is everything. For example, low amounts of omega 3 and raised omega 6 are associated with a heightened inflammatory response. This is understood to be the basis of many pain related conditions. Mental wellbeing relies on healthy fats; low levels or an inability to absorb them from the diet has been associated with depressive states.
Why use functional medicine tests
Amchara offers a range of tests that typically only found in the private complementary medicine sector. Specialist laboratories provide a range of tests that require either blood, urine, faecal or saliva samples. The main value of these forms of tests is the ability to monitor change. The results give a picture of where you are now and impact the programme has on your unique system
These include:
Inflammation markers • Hormones, vitamins and minerals Gut ecology including bacteria and parasites • Essential fatty acids Standard haematology profiles • Heart rate variability
